Sen. Feinstein Blasts Deceptive Big Oil Mailer
Over the past few days we’ve been telling you about a widely distributed private slate labeled ”Voter Information Guide for Democrats,” boasting of “evaluations and recommendations” by the Democratic Party and others. The fine print notes that the slate was prepared by Voter Information Guide, “not an official political party organization.” The oil companies put up $300,000 for this deceptive mailer.
Today, Josh Richman of the Oakland Tribune reported that, “U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein wants a Southern California company to stop distributing a slate mailer that uses her image but encourages votes which contradict her stances. Neither Feinstein, D-Calif., nor her campaign approved the “Voter Information Guide for Democrats” showing up in mailboxes across California.”

Prop 87 is About The Future
"The campaign for and against Proposition 87 is much like the debate now playing out across the nation,” said former President Bill Clinton this week in San Francisco at a rally for Prop 87, “One side says ‘stay the course’ and the other says ‘we can do better.”
As Clinton put it, “California is in the tomorrow business. We have never been impeded by fear or a fear of change… I’m sick and tired of America being the caboose on the world’s train to the future. Prop 87 is the hope for a brighter future.
This is a no-brainer. This is an easy issue. Vote yes on Prop 87. Voting yes on Prop 87 may be the most important vote you can cast in this election.

Prop 87 Sends Bush A Messsage
Proposition 87 will release an ad tomorrow at Laura Bush’s campaign stop for Richard Pombo (R-Tracy) that notes that five years after 9/11, we are still dependent on foreign oil – and that while President Bush won’t change, California can with Prop. 87. The ad will run in Bay Area markets, which includes Pombo’s district. Watch it now.
Pombo is a fervent advocate for more oil drilling, including in Alaska and off of California’s coast. It’s no surprise that President (and Texas oilman) Bush recently came to California to stump for him, followed tomorrow by Laura Bush.
“We’re running this ad in Pombo’s district to send him a message and send George Bush a message –- California wants change, not to ‘stay the course.’ We are ready for energy independence, and since Washington won’t lead, California will with Prop 87,” said Beth Willon, Yes on 87 press secretary.

Reduces Air Pollution, Improves Public Health
Why does the American Lung Association of CA join President Bill Clinton in supporting Prop. 87? Because our oil dependence has caused a public health crisis in our state – and breaking that dependence with Prop. 87 is a real solution we can bring with our votes on Nov. 7th.
California has the worst air quality in the nation. One hundred ninety million tons of pollution is pumped into California’s air every year by cars, trucks and buses that run on gasoline and diesel. The effects are felt by all of us – but it’s our kids that suffer the worst. By the age of just two months, some California infants have inhaled enough toxic pollutants to reach the EPA’s lifetime limit for cancer risk.

Robert Redford Backs Prop 87
With a smog filled Los Angeles skyline as a backdrop, longtime environmentalist and actor Robert Redford today urged Californians to pass Prop 87 saying they can’t let the oil companies continue to do business as usual.
“Now is the time for change. It’s drastically needed. It’s almost too late. The good news is that there are really positive and healthier solutions and that’s what Prop 87 is about and that’s what people need to know,” said Redford. Prop 87 reduces air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by reducing our dependence on dirty foreign oil and developing cleaner, cheaper fuel.
