No On 87 Campaign Sued for Deceptive Advertising

In a suit filed in Sacramento, Yes on 87 is demanding that No on 87 make it explicitly clear to voters that Chevron and Aera Energy, an ExxonMobil and Shell joint venture, are bankrolling their campaign. The Consumer Federation of California and two Sacramento voters joined Yes on 87 in filing the suit.

“The law says the No on 87 ads must make it clear that they’re paid for by Chevron and Area Energy, which is owned by Shell and ExxonMobil,” said Beth Willon, Yes on 87 Press Secretary.

The Bio Alternative to Diesel

Notes from the Drive Away from Oil Car Tour:

Even though I know it’s cleaner, I’m still getting used to the feeling of driving a diesel truck of my own. Since Monday I’ve been driving a Ford F-350 pickup, the most unassuming member of our Car Tour. What most people don’t realize is that any modern diesel engine is capable of running on the cleaner, renewable bio-diesel fuel in my tank right now.

Right off the 710 in Downey we pulled off to one of the few gas stations that provide bio-diesel pumps. The gritty industrial neighborhood is a far cry from the beach and Del Mar, the location of my last fill up. The station’s customers are mainly other truckers running shipping containers between the ports and the rail yards.

Riverside Mayor Loveridge Urges Yes Vote On 87

Mayor Ron Loveridge today urged Californians to vote Yes on Proposition 87, saying the time for action on cleaner air and cheaper energy is now.

Ron Loveridge has served as Riverside’s Mayor since 1994, and was a member of its City Council from 1979 to 1994. He is the Immediate Past President of the League of California Cities and is a member of the California Air Resources Board and the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

From the Car Tour Blog: Learning By Fire

Today we were diverted on our way from Bakersfield to Riverside due to a fire raging in Angeles National Forest. Ash rained down on us, the air was rolling with smoke, and the sun was a virulent orange in the sky. Even though we had the windows up and the vents blocked, the thick, heavy smell of smoke made it’s way into the car, our noses, and our lungs. It made me realize how much we take the air we breathe for granted.

Dolores Huerta Joins Yes on 87 Car Tour in Bakersfield

United Farm Workers co-founder and President of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, Dolores Huerta and Yes on 87 Founder Anthony Rubenstein today led a discussion with Bakersfield residents about how Proposition 87 will bring cleaner air and cheaper energy to California.

Bakersfield is where the majority of California oil is pumped, and has the worst air quality in the nation in terms of ozone, according to the American Lung Association.
