It’s always tough to find the perfect birthday gift for someone – especially when that someone made $400 million just last year.
When it comes to you, Lee Raymond, we could spend months arguing about what the perfect gift would be. But since your birthday is today, and we haven’t bothered to go to the mall, this message will have to do. And Lee, we not only want to wish you a Happy Birthday – we want to thank you for all you’ve done for us.
Lee, thanks for putting it all into perspective.
You see, right now the oil companies are saying that Prop 87 would eat into their profits so much that they would have to lower oil production in California and import more from overseas. You prove them wrong.
Prop 87 is a $4 billion effort to reduce California’s use of gasoline and diesel by 25% in the next 10 years. That works out to $400 million a year.
Exxon Mobil paid you $400 million last year! Now we have the right context for Prop 87 – and the proof that the oil companies’ argument is just plain false.
While you mean a lot to us, Lee, let’s face it -- $400 million is nothing to Exxon Mobil and even less to the entire California oil industry!
