Rebuy Tournament Strategy

The first thing you need to know about a rebuy tournament is what exactly it is so that you don’t get confused once you join one. In a rebuy tournament you’ll be able to rebuy chips typically for the first hour of the event and after the first hour players will no longer be able to rebuy. There are some benefits of playing in rebuy tournaments and some negatives and we’re going to look at both in this guide.

* One good thing about poker en ligne rebuy tournaments is that you can’t be beaten early in the event due to a bad beat because you’ll be able to buy back into the tournament. Often in regular tournaments the good players will lose on a bad beat when they lose so if you can rebuy chips when you get a bad beat it limits the amount of trouble you can get into.

* A negative for most players, but a plus for some players is that if you have lots of money you can typically buy yourself deep into the tournament. For those of us who don’t like spending money rebuying multiple times it can be a negative that your opponents with money can buy themselves deep into the event. This is a double edged sword and will only help out those with money and not those without money.

* A benefit for all PokerStars players in the tournament is that the prize pool will increase a lot due to the rebuys in the event which will help you win more money. Typically the prize pool will at least double if not more when you play in a rebuy tournament solely because of the rebuy money paid by players in the tournament.

* A lot of players will play loosely for the first hour of the event because they know that they can rebuy into the tournament. This will allow you to play more hands and hopefully trap an aggressive opponent when you hit a hand. It’s also a good idea to increase your stack early in rebuy tournaments so that you can survive once the blinds have risen.

* If you get a fish on your WSOP table who has money then you can potentially win thousands of chips off of the one player within the first hour of the event while the other player can rebuy. This won’t happen often, but it will happen sometimes and you need to watch out for these players. If you notice a player going all-in with nothing then call with nothing and see if you can hit. Worst case you’ll need to rebuy into the tournament, but if you win the hand you’ll have a nice chip stack.

There is no doubt that there are plenty of benefits for playing in rebuy tournaments rather then regular tournaments, but there are also negatives especially if you don’t have money for the rebuy period. These events are ideal for players with the bankroll to be able to rebuy once or twice if you lose your chips.
