Tips for Moving up in Stakes in Texas Holdem
There is going to be a time in every UB player’s career where they’re going to want to jump up in limits and play for more money. This is normal and although some players might not do as well most players will at least give it a shot. There are numerous factors you need to consider when you begin moving up stakes in poker and we’re going to look at some tips to make the move smoother.
* The first thing you need to keep in mind is that you’re going to be facing tougher opposition when you move up limits. There are a lot of fish on the low limit tables when you play online, but as you move up in the limits you’re going to find that the fish disappear and the sharks come out to play. It’s not going to be a factor that will make you lose, but if you aren’t aware of the fact then it could get you in trouble. You won’t be able to bluff as much at the higher limits and you’ll need to really switch up your game a lot.
* The second most important thing to remember when you’re moving up stakes is that you can’t just jump from a $1/$2 game up to a $100/$200 game. You need to make the transition slowly and smoothly so you need to make stops at other levels in between. If you’ve been playing $1/$2 then you should play $2/$5 for a couple months to see how that goes before moving up to $5/$10 and $10/$20.
* Another factor you need to consider when playing on SpadeClub is that you might not mind shipping $100-$200 into the pot on an all-in to win the pot, but when you need to ship $1000+ it might be a different story. You don’t want to be stressed out while playing because usually that will result in losing money so you need to be comfortable with the stakes you’re playing at. If you aren’t comfortable then consider moving down a level for a week or two to gain some confidence back.
* Players on the table are very observant when they’re playing high limits and they won’t make the same mistakes you see on the lower limit tables. They will also pick up on mistakes you make and will trap you much more efficiently then low limit players so you need to be careful. You can’t use the same mentality that you would use on a low limit table so keep this in mind when you’re playing on the higher limit tables.
Making the move to higher limit tables on many poker online websites can pay off tremendously because you’ll be playing bigger pots and if you keep winning you’ll be winning more money. You need to take the move slowly though to ensure that you don’t wind up becoming overwhelmed. If it isn’t working out for you then make sure you move back down a level or two until you start winning again and then move back up.
